Fishsauce

Fishsauce called "Nam Plaah" Thai is one of the basic spices in the Thai kitchen. The smell of the sauce is extremly fishy but the taste is delicious and typical for Thaifood. The sauce ist used instead of salt.
Fishsauce is made out of fermented fish. She looks brown, almost like soy sauce and can be stored months at room temperature.

The sauce is used as a spice for cooking or as a dipping sauce. Most of the times you can find chopped chilis and lime juice added to the fish sauce to make the dip called phrik nam plaah.
